Black Bears Break Losing Streak Against the New Jersey Titans

The Maryland Black Bears won against the New Jersey Titans 4-2 Sunday afternoon. The victory stops the Black Bears’ six-game skid that dates back to November 18th. The Black Bears dominated the first period by scoring two goals and jumping to a 2-0 lead. The first score was by Defenseman Bradley Jenion with assists from by Forwards Nick Grimaldi and Daylon Mannon. This was Jenion’s first career goal as a Black Bear. The second goal came on a power play from Forward Marek Wazny with an assist from Defenseman Luc Salem. Tempers flared toward the end of the first period. Defenseman Cameron Teamor from the Black Bears and New Jersey Titans Forward Kyler Head broke out the fisticuffs to hash out their differences.

The Titans mounted a comeback in the second period outscoring the Black Bears 2-1. The two goals cut the Black Bears lead to 3-2. Forward Luke Mountain countered the first Titan goal with help from Assistant Captain Connor Pooley and Captain Quinn Warmuth.

The third period was a defensive battle and highlighted the brilliant play from Maryland Black Bears goalie, David Tomeo. Tomeo saved all thirteen shots in the third period from the Titans and deflected 38 of the 40 Titan shots throughout the game. Pooley scored and secured the victory in the final minutes with an assist from Jenion. Jenion has been a great pick up adding a strong physical presence and solid offensive contribution.

Sunday was a much-needed win for the Black Bears. This group has been fighting hard game in and game out and were finally able to skate off the ice victorious today. The Maryland Black Bears take to the road again next week for a two-game series against the Northeast Generals.
