Black Bears Fall to Rebels Once Again

The Maryland Black Bears will be leaving Jamestown empty-handed after losing back to back games in regulation. The Black Bears losing streak now grows to 6 games and their grip on the 4th spot in the East Division is slipping.

The Black Bears came out aggressive and Hampus Rydqvist banked a shot off the Jamestown goaltender into the net just 1:35 into the contest.  After the quick strike from Rydqvist, both teams settled in and played a strong defensive period.  The Black Bears only allowed 5 shots on Cooper Black and did not commit a penalty.

Minutes into the second period, Black Bears captain Logan Kons committed the team’s only penalty of the night. The Rebels made the most of their only opportunity and Eric Olson scored off of a rebound to tie the game at 1 apiece. Less than 2 minutes later, the Black Bears struck back with a dart off the stick of Kyle Oleksiuk in the slot. Aden Bruich and Brayden Stannard recorded assists on the play, giving Stannard his second apple of the evening. Late in the period, Nick Siffringer scored off a redirect to tie the game heading into the final frame of the contest.

Nick Siffringer’s hot-hand carried into the third period as he struck again 41 seconds in. The Black Bears continued to have communication issues and struggled to connect on passes throughout the period. In the closing moments of the game, they pulled goalie Cooper Black for a 6th skater and still could not create any real scoring opportunities. The Black Bears finished the night 0-3 on the power play and were outshot 32-30.

The Black Bears will meet the Rebels again next weekend, this time playing on their home ice at Piney Orchard Ice Arena. Friday night will be college night! Use promo code: COLLEGE for 20% off tickets and a FREE MBB t-shirt!
