The goaltending stole the show in game one for Maryland Black Bears, with Michael Morelli leading Maryland to a 2-0 win in game one over the Northeast Generals. With the help of Morelli in game two, it was the Maryland Black Bears sneaking past the Generals 3-2 in the shootout.
The scoring didn’t start until the second period until Maryland defenseman Philip Tornqvist scoring on a wrist shot to make it 1-0. Northeast tied the game with a goal from forward Tyler Cooper to make it 1-1. Mathew Boczar gave the Generals the lead with a wrap-around goal to make it 2-1. The Black Bears were able to tie the game late in the period when Aidan McDowell scored on a two-on-one to tie the game 2-2 with just 2.3 seconds to go in the period. The game saw the same score headed into overtime and then a shootout.
Connor Cole scored first for Maryland. It went down to the final round where Northeast forward David Andreychuk scored to force the shootout to continue. And after a Michael Morelli save in round four on Generals’ forward Ricky Boysen, Black Bears forward Garrett Szydlowski scored on the backhand to end the game for Maryland with a 3-2 win.
The Black Bears start a stretch of six games in eight days on April 23rd when they take on the Northeast Generals at New England Sports Village in Attleboro, MA for a two-game series. They then take on the Danbury Jr. Hat Trick on the road on April 26th and 27th before returning home against the New Jersey Titans on April 29th and 30th. All games can be streamed on HockeyTV.
