The Northeast Generals and Maryland Black Bears faced off for the second time in as many nights. And for the second time in as many nights, the Black Bears walked away with a win, this time by the score of 4-1.
Maryland started the scoring in the second period with a shorthanded goal from defenseman Trayce Johnson. Johnson fired the puck from the point that found its way to the top left corner through a screen to make it 1-0. Shortly after while the teams were both playing four-on-four hockey, Black Bears’ forward and captain Connor Cole cashed in a shot in the slot to make it 2-0. Cole received a pass from the North American Hockey League’s leading point scorer Ryan Bottrill and stuffed it into the net for the two-goal lead.
Branden Piku tallied another goal in the third for Maryland to make it 3-0 by batting a rebound out of midair and into the back of the net. Northeast forward David Andreychuk got a goal back on the powerplay to make it 3-1, but Maryland capped the game off with an empty-net goal from forward Elliot Lareau for a 4-1 final.
The Black Bears hit the road next weekend for a series with the Jamestown Rebels. Maryland returns home for another series with the Northeast Generals Friday, October 22nd, and Saturday, October 23rd at Piney Orchard Ice Arena. All games can be streamed on HockeyTV.
