Black Bears Conquer Generals

The Maryland Black Bears looked to bounce back after a tough 6-3 loss to the Northeast Generals the night before. This time the Black Bears were able to get revenge on the Generals with a 7-3 win.

Maryland struck first with a goal just 58 seconds in from forward Laker Aldridge, who tucked the puck into the net on a rebound for a 1-0 lead. Miles Gunty added to the Black Bears’ lead, scoring on a snapshot to make it 2-0. The goal was Gunty’s first as a Black Bear. Northeast forward Mathew Boczar responded in the second period to cut the lead to 2-1. Maryland forward Connor Bennett then answered back with his first as a Black Bear, scoring on a wrist shot on a breakaway to make it 3-1. The Generals were able to cut the lead to 3-2 before the second period was over with a shorthanded goal by forward Brent Keefer.

Black Bears’ forward Branden Piku regained the two-goal lead with a breakaway goal to make it 4-2. Northeast bounced back with a goal on the powerplay from forward Paul Minnehan to make it 4-3. The Black Bears would seal the deal by scoring the next three goals. Maryland captain and forward Connor Cole scored on a wrist shot to make it 5-3, followed up by empty-net goals from forwards Laker Aldridge and Dimitry Kebreau for a 7-3 final.

The Black Bears hit the road next weekend to take on the Danbury Jr. Hat Tricks on Friday, October 29th, and Saturday, October 30th. Maryland returns home for a series against the Maine Nordiques starting Friday, November 5th. All games can be streamed on HockeyTV.
