The Maryland Black Bears and Johnstown Tomahawks took the ice for game two of their three-game set this weekend. After Maryland took game one 6-2, the Tomahawks were out for revenge. However, Johnstown would leave empty-handed, as Black Bears’ forward Hunter Ramos scored with just 01:18 to go in regulation to lift Maryland to an eventual 4-2 win.
The first period was a back-and-forth scoring affair, with Johnstown getting things started with a powerplay goal from forward Anthony Galante to make it 1-0. Maryland responded with the next two goals. The first came from defenseman Sean Kilcullen, who fired a shot from the boards that snuck past Tomahawks’ goalie Alec Rajalin-Scharp to make it 1-1. Black Bears’ forward Brayden Stannard made it 2-1 with a powerplay goal as he shot the puck from the slot to the top right corner. Anthony Galante was able to tie things up with another powerplay goal, poking the puck past Maryland goaltender William Hakansson to make it 2-2 after one period of play.
The next goal didn’t come until 01:18 to go in the game, where Black Bears’ forward Hunter Ramos found himself alone in front of the net where he backhanded the puck five-hole to give Maryland a 3-2 lead. Black Bears’ forward Christian Catalano sealed the deal with an empty net goal to make the final score 4-2.
Maryland and Johnstown conclude their series against Johnstown on Sunday at 2:00 PM ET at Piney Orchard Ice Arena. All games can be streamed on HockeyTV.
