Johnstown, PA — The Black Bears made a day trip up to Johnstown to play one of the two scheduled games for their final away trip of the 2020 portion of this season. Maryland got off to a slow start, to say the very least. They ended the first period being outshot 22-3, and thanks to a strong showing by goaltender Michael Morelli, the Black Bears were able to escape the period down only 1-0. The Black Bears’ slow start continued into the second period and they found themselves down 2-0 heading into the final frame.

Early in the third, Reid Leibold rang one off the post that gave the Black Bears a little bit of life. The Black Bears finally broke out of their hibernation in the game’s closing minutes. With just over two and a half minutes left, Daniel Colabufo got the Black Bears on the board with his fifth goal of the season. 69 seconds later, Josh Waters had a nice goal of his own to even the score late and force overtime. Unfortunately for Maryland, hope disappeared as quickly as it appeared, getting scored on just 39 seconds into the 3-on-3 overtime period. The Black Bears were able to leave Johnstown with a point, but will be hoping for more than just one in their next trip to Pennsylvania.

As of now, the Black Bears plan to be back in action on the very first day of the New Year. They will be looking to take first place back from the Maine Nordiques in a two-game series.
