The Maryland Black Bears and Jamestown Rebels rematched on Saturday night after Jamestown took Friday night’s game by the score of 2-1. Maryland took the lead late in regulation but despite a great defensive effort, the Rebels were able to tie the game late and win it in the shootout by the score of 3-2.

Jamestown started the scoring with a powerplay goal from forward Ethan Janda. Maryland forward Vlad Polegoshko tied the game late in the second period with a snap shot from the top of the near circle to make it 1-1. Late in regulation, Black Bears defenseman Aidan McDowell put Maryland up 2-1 with just 1:17 to go on a slap shot from the point on the power play. The goal was McDowell’s first of the season as the shot beat Rebels’ goalie Nolan Suggs top left corner. However, with under one second to go, the puck was jarred loose from a scrum in the corner and found Rebels’ defenseman Owen West all alone in the slot to stuff under the pad of Black Bears’ goalie Michael Morelli to tie the game 2-2. In the shootout, Jamestown forward Jak Vaarwerk scored the only goal from either side through three rounds, combined with three saves from Suggs won the game for the Rebels 3-2.

Maryland will begin a four-week road trip where the team will face New Jersey twice, along with the Maine Nordiques and Jamestown Rebels. The Black Bears return home Thursday, April 14th for its final regular-season series against the Jamestown Rebels. All games can be streamed on HockeyTV.
