Logan Kons, The Maryland Black Bears’ 2019-2020 Team Captain has announced his commitment to continue his athletic and academic career at Augsburg University, a Division 3 school in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Augsburg is a member of the MIAC athletic conference, which plans to resume play in the 2021-2022 season. Kons is extremely excited about his future at Augsburg and grateful for his time in Maryland.

“I want to thank the Maryland Black Bears organization for helping me get to the next chapter of my career at Augsburg University. I have grown tremendously as a player and as a person due to the support from coaches, family and friends throughout the process. I also want to thank the Black Bear fans for the endless support throughout the first two years. Maryland will always be a special place as my billet family created a second home for me. I am very excited for the next four years at Augsburg University.”

The Black Bears Head Coach and GM, Clint Mylymok had nothing but praise for his former Captain.

“Logan has set the benchmark for being a Captain with the Maryland Black Bears organization. He is a classy individual, well respected by his peers and a heck of a defenseman. We enjoyed his presence with our team for the past two seasons and wish him all the best on the next step of his academic and hockey career. He will be a great addition to the Augsburg program. It is hard to put into words what Logan has meant to the coaching staff, front office staff, and our amazing fans. We look forward to seeing Logan come back and visit, and like all Black Bears alumni, is always welcome back to The Den!”

In his final season with the Black Bears, Kons was awarded the North American Hockey League’s Community Service Award. He will be missed by fans and the Central Maryland Community.
