The Maryland Black Bears entered Friday night’s contest with the most points (20) and goals (47) as they looked for its third consecutive win against the Danbury Jr. Hat Tricks. They were able to do just that, securing a 4-1 win to move to 11-2-0 on the season.

The Black Bears got the scoring started when forward Branden Piku got a breakaway and fired the puck past the blocker of Danbury goalie Patriks Berzins to make it 1-0. After the first period, the Jr. Hat Tricks then switched goalies, electing to put in Adam Johnson over Berzins. The Black Bears got another goal on the breakaway in the second period when forward Hunter Ramos beat Johnson on the glove side to make it 2-0. Danbury got a goal back when forward Logan Nickerson slid a rebound past Maryland goalie Jack Weinike to cut the lead to 2-1.

In the third period, the Black Bears regained a two-goal lead with a powerplay goal from defenseman Luke Van Why, letting a wrist shot go from the point that found its way past the screen to make it 3-1. Maryland forward and captain Brad McNeil capped the night off with a shorthanded empty net goal to make the final score 4-1. Weinike made 19 saves in his fifth win of the season.

The Black Bears and Jr. Hat Tricks retake the ice Saturday, October 15th, at Piney Orchard Ice Arena with puck drop scheduled for 7:30 PM ET. All games can be streamed on HockeyTV.
