After Maryland recorded an exciting 4-3 overtime win over New Hampshire the night before, the two teams took the ice at Piney Orchard Ice Arena on Saturday night for a rematch. In a tight contest, the Maryland Black Bears were able to secure a 2-1 win over New Hampshire, securing the sweep and staying in first place in the NAHL’s East Division.

All the scoring came in the second period of the contest. The first one came on a delayed penalty call on New Hampshire, where Maryland forward Ryder Nienhuis threw the puck on goal, and while the initial shot was kicked out by Mountain Kings’ goaltender Cooper Rautenstrauch, the rebound went right to Black Bears’ defenseman Raymond Perrault, who buried the rebound for his first goal as a Maryland Black Bear to give them a 1-0 lead. New Hampshire tied the game up later in the frame with forward Mathew Hale cutting out in front of the goal and letting a snapshot go that snuck past Maryland goaltender Colin Ronan for a 1-1 tie.

Less than two minutes later Maryland was able to reclaim the lead with a goal from forward Kareem El-Bashir, who received a pass from forward Mathew Croxall from behind the net to the slot, where El-Bashir let a wrist shot go to the top right corner for a 2-1 lead that the Black Bears would not relinquish. The Mountain Kings gave everything they had in the final minute, pulling the goalie and getting a high volume of shots on Ronan, who turned them aside. The game ended when Maryland forward Michael Urgo made a sliding block on a shot from New Hampshire forward Jack Costanzo on the far side of the offensive zone, securing the 2-1 Black Bears win. Ronan made 18 saves in his fifth win of the season.

The Black Bears hit the road on Friday, October 27th, and Saturday, October 28th as they face the Danbury Jr. Hat Tricks. Maryland will return home on Friday, November 3rd for a two-game series with the Rochester Jr. Americans. All games can be streamed on NAHLTV.
