Maryland returned home to Piney Orchard Ice Arena riding a four-game win streak as they hosted the Rochester Jr. Americans for the first time in franchise history. The Jr. Americans were also riding a winning streak after winning back-to-back games against the Northeast Generals the weekend prior. And in a chippy, high-scoring contest, it was Maryland securing a 4-2 win for their fifth straight win.

Rochester started the scoring in the first period with a shorthanded goal from Luca Leighton, who got behind the defense and slid the puck five-hole on Maryland Black Bears’ goaltender Colin Ronan to make it 1-0 Jr. Americans. The Black Bears responded 27 seconds later on the power play when forward Jesse Horacek stuffed a rebound home to make it 1-1. The power play struck again for Maryland when forward and captain Dimitry Kebreau received a pass from behind the net from forward Adam Schankula and ripped the puck to the top right corner on Rochester goaltender Cole O’Donnell to give the Black Bears a 2-1 lead which they would hold onto for the remainder of the first period.

Maryland resumed the scoring in the second period shortly after a power play expired when the puck found defenseman Luke Amell on the far corner, who let a wrist shot fly that found space under O’Donnell’s blocker to make it 3-1. The Jr. Americans responded in the period’s final two minutes when forward Jaden Dyke received a pass from the blueline from defenseman Tyler Procious and let a slap shot go that found the back of the net to cut the lead to 3-2 after two periods. The scoring concluded in the third period when Black Bears’ defenseman Trayce Johnson chipped a rebound over O’Donnel and in for a 4-2 score that would hold up to be the final.

The Black Bears and Jr. Americans will rematch on Saturday, November, 4th, with puck drop scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET at Piney Orchard Ice Arena. All games can be streamed on NAHLTV.
