After suffering a tough 4-2 loss the day before, the Maryland Black Bears looked to bounce back against the Danbury Jr. Hat Tricks in another mid day game. In another back-and-forth contest, it was the Black Bears grabbing the lead late in the second period and not letting go for a 3-2 win.

Danbury struck first with a power play goal from forward Alex Krause to make it 1-0. The puck bounced out from behind the net right to Krause, who batted the puck in past Maryland goalie Hannes Kollen. The Black Bears responded less than half a minute later with a goal from Luke Mountain to tie the game 1-1. Mountain received a cross ice pass from Josh Nixon and snapped it past Hat Tricks’ goalie Andrew Pichora.

The second period is where the remainder of the scoring took place. Luke Mountain gave Maryland a 2-1 lead just under six minutes into period two with a wrist shot from the right circle as he entered the zone. Danbury responded when the puck came from behind the net and hit the skate of defenseman Joshua Burke. The puck deflected in past a confused Kollen to tie the game 2-2. The Black Bears got the last laugh, however. With just 29 seconds left in the second period while on the power play, Garret Szydlowski scored his second goal of the series with a wrist shot from the left circle to make it 3-2. This score would hold up as the final and Maryland secured its twelfth win of the season.

The Black Bears hit the ice again Monday, February 8th and Tuesday, February 9th at Ice World with puck drop times to be determined.
