The Maryland Black Bears took the ice Friday night looking to get back in the win column against the Jamestown Rebels. This is the Rebels’ first visit to Maryland since February 29th, 2020 after sitting out the 2020-2021 season. And after 706 days since the team’s last trip to Odenton, Maryland, the Black Bears welcomed them back by not allowing a single goal. The Black Bears struck twice in the first period and never looked back, holding on for a 2-0.

Both goals came in the first period and both were scored by Maryland forward Tyler Young. Young redirected a slap pass from teammate Branden Piku for a 1-0 lead early on in the frame. Then with only 13 seconds to go in the first period, Tyler Young got the puck and was able to deke out Jamestown goalie Nolan Suggs with a forehand-backhand move for the 2-0 lead. The score would hold up to be the final as Black Bears’ goalie Luca Di Pasquo made 33 saves in his third shutout of the season. Maryland forward Elliott Lareau recorded two assists in his team’s 2-0.

Maryland and Jamestown rematch Saturday night at 7:00 PM ET at Piney Orchard Ice Arena. The game can be streamed on HockeyTV.
